About my art
CREATING TO COMFORT.
After losing both my hearing, body function and level of vision in 2020, art became a part of my physical recovery. I started with tracing things digitally, at the time I couldn’t even hold a pen and sign my name properly. Over time I transferred to sketches, then charcoal and slowly paints, every new medium comes with new challenges. Mostly I create from bed or in short sessions. My experiences have slowly shown up in my art, from the contrast I use, the light effects I’m obsessed with, the softness and slight blur of things. Art is slowly giving me a way to show people the way I now see the world and explain things I don’t always have the words for.

ART EXHIBITION
Moments is a series of mixed media oil paintings by local artist Elina Isabella. Combining narrative portraiture with storytelling and lived experience of multi complex illness and disability, Elina has created a space filled with meaningful art.
Soft Moments isn’t sugar coating the harshness of life with illness and disability. It’s capturing the small soft moments in between that provide an anchor when the world feels too much.
As someone who has been house and bed bound since I was 14 (I’m now 23 so that’s almost 10 years) making a way not only for those who cannot access the community easily to be able to view the exhibition but experience it in even a small way as if they were there.
I so I have not one but two versions of the online accessible version of “Soft Moments”. The first is an online gallery you can move around the space by clicking on an artwork and using the arrows in the bottom corner.
The second option is an immersive Augmented Reality exhibition, by downloading the free Eyeyjack app on your phone or tablet and scanning each QR code you are able to view the artworks through the screen as if they are appearing in your own space/room. To see all the artworks make sure you turn your camera view around the room as the exhibition is a full 180 degree experience.

Hiya, i’m SO glad YOU’RE HERE
Your resident constantly confused Deafie, with a love for capturing the softness of life admist the harshness.
JustSoElina has always been a hub for creative outlet, what started as a YouTube channel, branched into a blog after I became bedbound at 14. I went from hiding my illness completely to sharing my journey getting a diagnosis of Ehlers Danlos Sydrome. Getting involved in online advocacy and talking about the dismissal of young people with chronic illness and hearing loss in the medical system and community. And working in co design as a health consumer representative.
Studying Art from home and developing “Soft Moments” a series aimed to capture the soft moments amongst the harshness of life with illness and disability. I paint so young people with illness and disabilities grow up seeing themselves as something beautiful and worthy of art.
My hope is for my art to be a bridge for loved ones of those navigating a world they may not understand, to show they see their strength and what they are going through.
Creativity holds no bounds, thus here is a collection of my crazy. I hope you stick around and find some comfort in it.
